Library readers reach summer reading goal of a million minutes
Published July 27, 2023
Mission accomplished: Participants of the Placer County Library’s summer reading challenge have eclipsed a million minutes read, and with days to spare.
The county’s Library Services team expressed great excitement for the community’s ability to reach the goal, which also means library staff will stage an “outrageous stunt.”
The library has scheduled seven Summer Fest After Party events where children who completed this year’s reading challenge will get to ambush their local librarian with silly string! Click here for the after party event schedule.
“The participation for Summer Fest 2023 has been record-breaking in a variety of ways, and our community really came together to reach the one-million-minute goal,” said Director of Library Services Mary George. “One million minutes is a lot of reading, equaling 694 days or 99 weeks. To reach that goal and promote literacy in our community is amazing.”
This year’s summer reading program – which is themed Summer Fest 2023, Find Your Voice – invited the community to track reading, participate in challenges, share reviews, earn badges and attend a variety of in-person events such as magic shows and instructor-led art sessions.
Even though the community reached the million minutes goal, Summer Fest is not over. Library Services encourages the community to continue logging minutes read to set the bar even higher, and to visit http://www.placer.beanstack.org to complete other challenges and continue to earn badges.
Summer Fest ends July 29.
