Library’s summer reading challenge approaching million-minute milestone

Published July 20, 2023

Placer County readers are inching closer and closer to a summer reading milestone – and the outrageous reward that comes with it.

The Placer County Library’s SummerFest 2023 summer reading challenge of logging a million minutes has surpassed the 860,000 mark with nine days left to go.

“We’ve come close, but never hit a million minutes before,” said Assistant Director of Library Services Sophie Bruno. “Our librarians are excited to be this close with more than one week left … and a little nervous because they’ve promised an outrageous stunt if our community reaches that one million mark. So log your minutes!”

The library has not announced what the outrageous stunt will be. One million minutes is equal to 694 days, or 99 weeks.

SummerFest 2023 has combined the reading challenge with a variety of summer events including magic acts, live music, slime-making classes, art contests and more.

Those interested in helping Placer County get over the top can still sign up at http://www.placer.beanstack.org and log some reading minutes through July 29.
