Supervisors approve infrastructure improvement contract for Placer County Government Center

The Placer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a $12.1 million contract with Veerkamp General Engineering Inc. to begin infrastructure improvements at the Placer County Government Center - helping service the long-term vision of public and private land uses at the county’s campus in North Auburn.

Work will soon begin on water, sewer and stormwater upgrades that will help support the 2019 Placer County Government Center Master Plan that maps out a 20-year vision of modern government buildings to serve the community, along with private investment for mixed-use residential, commercial, retail development and walkable open spaces.

Construction is currently underway on a new two-story Health and Human Services Center that will help make services more accessible to clients. The infrastructure improvements approved Tuesday are essential to tie-in to the new building as well as future projects.

The current water, sewer and stormwater systems at the Placer County Government Center were built in the 1940s as part of the DeWitt General Hospital, and are not suitable for modern construction needs.

Work on the upgrades will begin in January and at times will require some road closures and detours for the public and employees of the Placer County Government Center.
