Residents encouraged to show love for local and “Shop Placer” this holiday season
Published Nov. 23, 2022
It’s that time of year again. Placer County leaders are encouraging residents to give back to their community this holiday season as they roll out their third-annual Shop Placer campaign.
The “Shop Placer, Show Love for Local” campaign is a regional effort of local chambers of commerce, cities and towns to band together and encourage Placer County residents to shop local and support their favorite businesses and restaurants whenever possible.
Placer County is home to roughly 13,000 businesses and it is estimated that between 80-90% of these are considered small businesses. From handcrafted goods to locally grown produce, these local retailers are one-of-a-kind, and they are known for giving personalized one-on-one attention to their customers.
“We’re asking our residents to consider the uniqueness of small businesses here in Placer County as a way to find something special for your loved ones during the holidays,” said Placer County Economic Development Director Gloria Stearns. “Our small business owners have unique insight and can recommend valuable finds within their inventory or share their best deals.”
Shopping locally also provides a variety of benefits to residents.
It helps keep businesses open and preserves jobs. Research has shown that 91% of local business owners contribute to local schools, nonprofits and community groups, by volunteering and making donations. Shopping locally can also help save energy and resources by reducing carbon emission through less fuel for transportation and less packaging.
Those local sales also keep tax dollars invested in the region for important services including law enforcement and fire services.
