We want to thank everyone who assisted the community during the Mosquito Fire. Dozens of agencies, organizations, and individuals came together with the common goal of helping each other through this challenging ordeal. We are grateful to our first responders and thankful for the support services that brought our community through the fire.

Volunteer and Non-Profit Organizations

211 Placer/Connecting Point – Representatives manned a general information line to help communicate critical information to residents

American Red Cross – managed shelter operations and aided evacuated residents

Assembly of God Chaplaincy – Emotional Care

Bell Rd Baptist Church – Provided an evacuation shelter location for the first three days of the fire and provided food support for the Sierra College evacuation shelter and the local assistance center

CA National Guard Veterans Family Program – Resource and referral to service members, veterans, and their families of any branch of the military

California-Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church (CNUMC) – Gift cards, clean-up buckets, personal property recovery

California Southern Baptist Disaster Response – Critical Incident stress management, personal property recovery

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Provided a parking lot for trash bins where people could drop off their spoiled food

Crooked Creek Acres – Helped with animal management

FieldHaven Feline Center – Provided shelter to evacuated cats

Hope City – Volunteer Resource Village Coordination

Nevada County Veterinary Disaster Response Team – Helped care for evacuated animals at the Nevada County Fairgrounds

North Valley Animal Disaster Group – Provided coordinated volunteer support for Animal Services to support two animal evacuation shelters for 7 days

Northern California Association of Equine Practitioners – Provided care to evacuated horses at animal evacuation shelters

Northern California Episcopal Disaster Services – Gift cards and Project (Re)Start bins for material assistance

Placer Community Foundation – Collected monetary donations and distributed them to impacted residents

Placer Food Bank – Provided food to evacuated residents

Placer SPCA – Collected and managed donations to support the animal evacuation shelters; also transferred adoptable animals to help make space at the Auburn shelter

Sacramento SPCA – Provided shelter and care for adoptable animals to free up the Animal Services Center for evacuated animals 

Saint Vincent de Paul – Gift cards, and subsequent financial assistance depending on the need of the individual/families via North State Fire Fund and Disaster Services Corporation of SVDP National

Salvation Army – Provided three meals a day at the evacuation shelters for 16 days; gift cards, financial assistance

Solano County SPCA – Provided shelter and care for adoptable animals to free up the Animal Services Center for evacuated animals 

Tzu Chi USA – Cash cards, gas cards, blankets

United Policyholders – Non-profit that advocates/provide information and support for survivors as they navigate through the insurance claim process


Private Sector

@ The Grounds – Provided facilities for the Incident Command Post 

Auburn Chamber of Commerce – Coordinated with the Placer Community Foundation to distribute monetary donations to impacted residents

Baker Ranch Water Company – maintained water system for fire suppression

Foresthill Divide Chamber of Commerce – Resource for business and individual recovery due to evacuation and fire

Gold Country Fairgrounds – Provided facilities for first responder’s basecamp and shelter for evacuated animals

Legal Services of Northern CA – Pro-bono disaster legal services

Pride Industries – Transported evacuees with special needs

Recology – Provided trans bins and collected approximately 120 tons of spoiled foods

Placer County Air Pollution Control District – Air pollution monitoring and advisory

Placer County Resource Conservation District – provide forestry and soil erosion technical assistance to property owners 

Placer County Water Agency – provided a staging area for law enforcement operations 

Placer Union High School District – Provided auditorium for in-person Mosquito Fire town hall meeting

Sierra College – Provided an evacuation shelter location for 12 days for approximately 120 evacuees

Probation Department – Provided staff and the Mobile Work Crew for the Animal Evacuation Center, the spoiled food bins, and the Local Assistance Center 

Public Works Roads Division – Provided road repairs for emergency vehicle access

Firefighters – Nearly 4,000 firefighters from fire agencies across the state battled the Mosquito Fire

Law Enforcement – Peace officers from several jurisdictions provided mutual aid for evacuations and security patrols.

Calaveras County Animal Services – Provided staff support for the animal evacuation shelter 

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office – Incident management

Nevada County Animal Control – Assisted with evacuation as well as set up and some management of the Nevada County Fairgrounds and Nevada County Evacuation Team
