December marks National Impaired Driving Prevention Month – and rightfully so – drinking-related deaths rise up to 41% during Christmas and up to 58% during the New Year’s holiday. Last year, traffic fatalities jumped 15% statewide. Counties are seeing up to double in DUI deaths in California.

While calling a ride can cost around $60, a DUI in its entirety can cost up to $20,000. This includes:

CHP's Designated Driver Program (DDP) The Department's dedication to reducing DUI-related traffic accidents is also shown in its support of the Designated Driver program. Designated Driver is designed not only to educate the public about  the dangers of drinking and driving, but also to encourage and reward those who choose not to drink in order to safely drive others home.  Learn more
