Placer bridge replacement projects in Lincoln on track for 2021

Two aging bridges near Lincoln are on track for replacement this summer with the Placer County Board of Supervisors today approving contacts for the projects.

The bridge on Dowd Road over Raccoon Creek is 83-years old and has a narrow, one-lane deck that is due for replacement. The project will replace the bridge and approaching roadways to reflect current structural standards. The board today approved a contract of $5.4 million with Viking Construction Company Inc. for this project. 

The existing bridge on Crosby Herold Road over Doty Ravine is over 75-years old and is also needing replacement. The board approved an advance construction loan in an amount not to exceed $4.1 million for both construction and construction management services to replace the bridge.

Both projects are fully funded through the Federal Highway Administration’s Federal Highway Bridge Program, which provides federal aid to local agencies to replace and rehabilitate deficient locally-owned public highway bridges.  

“Placer County staff has been very successful in obtaining funds for bridge replacement projects through the Federal Highway Administration’s Federal Highway Bridge Program,” said Placer County Board of Supervisors Chair Robert Weygandt. “They have done an impressive job reaching out to the communities impacted by these projects and have ensured the finished projects will be aesthetically pleasing and appropriate for their environments.” 

Work is scheduled to begin for the bridge over Dowd Road on May 10. During construction, Dowd Road will be closed to through traffic for up to one year. Construction for the bridge over Crosby Herold Road is tentatively scheduled to begin in May. Crosby Herold Road will be closed to through traffic for approximately six months, beginning in June.
