Three supervisors take the oath of office including one newly elected member

A swearing-in ceremony was held today for three Placer County supervisors, including newly elected Supervisor Suzanne Jones. The ceremonial oath of office was administered by Placer County Superior Court Presiding Judge Alan Pineschi as the first order of business at the Board of Supervisors meeting. 

District 3 Supervisor Jim Holmes and District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson joined Supervisor Jones in the swearing-in ceremony. Although all three were elected in the March 2020 primary, they did not begin their new terms until the start of the new year.  

Supervisor Holmes, who has served on the board since January 2005, was re-elected to a fifth term in office giving him another four years of service to the residents of North Auburn, Ophir, Newcastle, Penryn and Loomis along with the majority of Rocklin.

“I want the residents of District 3 to know I appreciate the trust and confidence they have placed in me to continue to represent them and provide responsible governance,” said Holmes. “I do not take the responsibility lightly and will continue to serve with dedication and commitment.”

Supervisor Gustafson was elected by District 5 voters to serve her first full term after having been appointed by the board in April 2019 to fill a vacant seat. Representing the largest district in terms of landmass, Gustafson’s region encompasses portions of Auburn up to North Lake Tahoe.   

“It was an honor to have been appointed by the Board of Supervisors, but to have the residents of the communities I serve provide me their vote of confidence is incredibly humbling,” said Gustafson. “I cannot express the level of gratitude I feel at having been entrusted with such an important responsibility.”

Newly elected Supervisor Jones, who has a long history of service in her community, was elected to her first term to represent District 4, which encompasses Granite Bay and East Roseville. A three-term trustee for the Placer County Board of Education, Jones is no stranger to elected office and her message to county residents is clear. 

“I am excited to serve all the constituents in District 4. I thank you for electing me and my commitment to you is that I will work extremely hard to support and represent you,” said Jones.  “I will always have an open door and hope to have my community participate along the way.”  

Throughout her tenure as a trustee on the Placer County Board of Education, Supervisor Jones was dedicated to ensuring program excellence for early childhood education, special education, alternative education, community schools and juvenile court schools in Placer County. She recently resigned from her position just prior to becoming Supervisor.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors meets regularly at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 175 Fulweiler Avenue in Auburn. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, in-person attendance is limited to 25% of the board chamber’s capacity.
