Placer County will host a community meeting for the Yankee Jims Bridge Replacement Project on Feb. 6 in Auburn to seek input as it begins to develop an environmental impact report for the project.

Yankee Jims Bridge crosses the North Fork American River between Colfax and Foresthill. Preliminary plans call for building a new bridge next to the existing bridge, leaving the original bridge in place for historic preservation purposes.

The aging bridge is currently structurally deficient and doesn’t meet current design standards. Further, it has a load limit of 3 tons so it can’t support fire trucks, which usually weigh between 19 to 30 tons.
