Youth in Government Day
Placer High School students will have a unique opportunity to learn about career paths in local government during Placer County’s first Youth in Government Day on Wednesday, May 8. This event will allow students to explore “a day in the life” of Placer County staff.

Moving forward on Speedboat Beach improvements

Start date for French Meadows Forest Project

New online permit application services coming June
Customers will soon be able to submit land development applications for commercial and residential projects from the comfort of their home, business or mobile workplace any day, any time. The Placer County Planning Services Division is set to launch a new electronic application platform June 10, which will allow customers to submit planning permit applications online.

Road maintenance scheduled for summer
Nearly 12 miles of county-maintained roads are planned for pavement overlay this summer. The Placer County Board of Supervisors today approved a $4.7 million contract agreement with Teichert Construction for the work, set to begin in June.

New trees for Sheridan Elementary
Sheridan Elementary School last week planted 18 new trees on its campus thanks to funding from the Placer County Tree Preservation Fund. The school’s athletic fields are now lined with trees that will grow to provide shade and greenery for students and community members alike.

137 acres in Auburn approved for conservation
Over 137 acres of agricultural land and blue oak woodland are planned for conservation in North Auburn, with the Placer County Board of Supervisors today approving the use of $205,000 of Placer Legacy open space funds. The funding will contribute to an agricultural conservation easement that will be held by the private nonprofit Placer Land Trust.

County to move forward in developing 2-1-1 system
With yesterday’s direction from the Board of Supervisors, Placer County will move forward in developing a 2-1-1 information and referral system. 2-1-1 provides free online and telephone support to community members to connect them with resources ranging from disaster aid to health and human services.

Starting June 1, older adults and people with disabilities receiving Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, may be newly eligible for CalFresh food benefits.
