Notice of availability: Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley base-to-base gondola project final EIS/EIR

The U.S. Forest Service and Placer County have released the final Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Base-to-Base Gondola Project environmental impact report/ environmental impact statement.

Squaw Valley Ski Holdings LLC has proposed a base-to-base gondola project connecting Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley ski areas, including two base terminals, two mid-stations and 33-35 lift towers along the alignment to be installed within the Alpine Meadows Ski Area boundary.

The project area encompasses parts of the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows operational boundaries, as well as surrounding private lands northwest of Lake Tahoe in Placer County.

The county received notification from the developer that the previously proposed eight Gazex avalanche mitigation devices are no longer part of this project and have been removed from the final EIS/EIR.

The final EIS/ EIR has been prepared by the U.S. Forest Service and Placer County in accordance with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act and the California Environmental Quality Act, respectively.

The final EIS/EIR will be presented at upcoming municipal advisory council meetings in North Lake Tahoe, followed by a presentation to the Placer County Planning Commission for its recommendation, and ultimately to the Placer County Board of Supervisors for consideration later this summer. Meeting dates will be posted to the project website as they are scheduled.
