Bowman Road closing next week
Beginning the week of April 8, Bowman Road will be closed between Apple Lane and Old Airport Road as construction begins on the Bowman Road Bridges Improvement Project. Both lanes of the road will be closed to traffic until project completion, anticipated next winter.

Free screening of wildfire documentary in Colfax
Continuing its commitment to fire safety, Placer County and the Placer County Fire Safe Alliance are teaming up to host a free screening on April 17 of the documentary film "Wilder Than Wild." The film focuses on the changing nature of California's wildfires and is intended to encourage residents to take action to protect their properties.

The U.S. Forest Service and Placer County have released the final Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Base-to-Base Gondola Project environmental impact report/ environmental impact statement.

The Sierra Small Business Development Center at Sierra Business Council and Placer County operate a North Tahoe satellite office for business consulting, located in the Placer County Administrative Center at 775 North Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City.

Fire Protection District special elections
Voter-information guides and -mail ballots are hitting the mail today from the Placer County Elections Office to registered voters in the Placer Hills and Foresthill Fire Protection Districts, in preparation for the upcoming May 7 special election.

Youth Commission accepting applications
The Placer County Youth Commission is now accepting applications from local youth who wish to serve as one of 18 formally appointed members for the 2019-20 term. The PCYC is an advisory board to the Placer County Board of Supervisors that consists of at least one youth representative from each of the five supervisory districts.

Cannabis cultivation drop-in meeting
With Placer County’s cannabis ordinance now in effect for two years, county staff will host a drop-in meeting May 1 to answer questions about rules for cannabis cultivation and the county’s compliance and enforcement process.

Bear River fee schedule changes
The Placer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved 3-0, with District 3 Supervisor Jim Holmes absent and District 5 Seat vacant, an amendment to the Bear River Campground fee schedule, in order to help offset operating costs and improve visitor experience through higher-level service.

Connect with One Big Bin on Earth Day
The Western Placer Waste Management Authority invites the community to join them in celebrating Earth Day for the month of April. WPMWA’s One Big Bin program will host a booth during the Earth Day event at the Armed Forces Pavilion and Community Garden in Auburn on Saturday, April 20, with games and contests to win exclusive apparel and prizes.

Volunteer Income Tax program refunds
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program volunteers saved low-income Placer County individuals and families close to $650,000 on their tax returns this year - a 22 percent increase over last year’s $527,714 refund total.

Housing the homeless
Placer County’s Whole Person Care program for homeless individuals with complex needs has hit a major milestone, reaching 100 clients housed. All clients included in this number have been housed successfully, meaning that they have remained stable in their placements. Clients with failed placements, who have been evicted or otherwise removed, are not included in this total.

Whitehawk II subdivision project
The Placer County Board of Supervisors in a 4-0 vote approved the Whitehawk II subdivision project in Granite Bay. The board tentatively approved the project at their meeting in Auburn on April 22 following a final public hearing.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved the Alpine Sierra subdivision project in Alpine Meadows, adding 38 homes with advanced wildfire protection measures.

Wineries and farm breweries in Placer County
The public review period for the winery and farm brewery ordinance draft environmental impact report, which analyzes new rules that would refine regulation of wineries and farm breweries in Western Placer County, has been extended from June 3 to June 10.

Help guide the future of recreation
Placer County is seeking community input at two upcoming public workshops to help develop the first-ever countywide Parks and Trails Master Plan draft. Community members are invited to provide feedback on a draft of the plan as focus group participants at upcoming meetings set for May 7 in Kings Beach and May 15 in North Auburn.
