Agencies responding to spill from fuel truck accident on I-80 near Dutch Flat

A tanker truck accident along eastbound Interstate 80, just east of the Dutch Flat exit generated a multi-agency response this morning as crews work to minimize fuel contamination.

The truck was carrying an estimated 7,000-8,000 gallons of fuel. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Placer County Environmental Health, the Placer County Water Agency, CAL FIRE / Placer County Fire and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are working together to minimize the environmental impacts of the spill and protect public health.

PCWA initially shut down its Alta and Monte Vista water treatment plants, but both were reopened after it was determined there was no fuel contamination or risk to customers. Agencies are implementing safeguards to prevent fuel from reaching nearby Canyon Creek, with rain forecasted.

CAL FIRE / Placer County Fire is the incident commander for the accident. PCWA, Placer County, DFW and others will continue to coordinate until cleanup efforts are complete.
