Dependent Care - Flexible Spending Account (FSA) - All Benefit Groups

Placer County offers employees a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) administered by Discovery Benefits. The Dependent Care FSA allows employees to set aside pre-tax dollars from their paycheck to pay for eligible expenses such as child or adult day care.  Employees are reimbursed for actual expenses only, and any unused funds are forfeited per Internal Revenue Service rules.

Healthcare – Flexible Spending Account (FSA) – Management & Confidential Benefit Groups Only

Placer County offers employees in the Management and Confidential Benefit Groups the option of enrolling in a Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) administered by Discovery Benefits.  The Healthcare FSA allows employees to set aside pre-tax dollars from their paycheck to pay for eligible out-of-pocket medical, dental, and vision care expenses that are not covered by your insurance plan or elsewhere. Employees are reimbursed for actual expenses only, and any unused funds are forfeited per Internal Revenue Service rules.

Required California Notice:

California State Law requires employers to notify all employees who participate in a flexible spending account (FSA) the deadlines to withdraw funds before the end of the plan year.

 2020 Plan Year Deadlines:

  • December 31, 2020 – Last day employees can expend FSA contributions for the plan year January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. Any amount not expended by this date will be forfeited.
  • March 31, 2021 – Last day employees can submit a 2020 claim to Discovery Benefits for reimbursement.

 2021 Plan Year Deadlines:

  • December 31, 2021 – Last day employees can expend FSA contributions for the plan year January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021. Any amount not expended by this date will be forfeited.
  • March 31, 2022 – Last day employees can submit a 2021 claim to Discovery Benefits for reimbursement.
