The mission of the Treasurer-Tax Collector is to serve the public by safeguarding public funds that are used to provide services to Placer County residents. As the central depository for county funds, the office is charged with the prudent collection, management, and investment of public funds.

Tristan Butcher serves as the Placer County Treasurer-Tax Collector, an elected official. The County Treasurer serves as the bank to the County, all school districts, and numerous special districts.
On 6/30/23 the Treasury currently had $2.4 billion dollars on deposit. These monies are held in various investments consisting of treasury notes and bills, other government bonds, and various other money market instruments.
The Tax Collector collects taxes for more than 70 different taxing agencies within the County. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the office collected over $1.3 billion dollars in different types of property taxes, general obligation bonds, direct charges and special assessments.
Property Tax Assistance is available through the California Mortgage Relief Program
The California Mortgage Relief Program, which helps homeowners catch up on their housing payments, has just launched a property tax assistance option.
Beginning Friday, March 31, 2023, the California Mortgage Relief Program is raising the limit for assistance with delinquent property taxes from $20,000 to a maximum of $80,000 per household.
