Notice from PG&E regarding Public Safety Power Shutoff event

Last updated on Oct. 11, at 12:40 p.m.

PG&E has given the weather event in Placer County the "all clear" and is now moving forward with efforts to fully restore service. PG&E turned off power to large portions of Placer County Early Wednesday morning because of a heightened fire risk due to gusty winds and dry conditions. Residents are encouraged to visit the PG&E website or their Facebook page and Twitter page for more information. For guidelines on how to protect yourself and your loved ones, see our power outage page.

Power Restoration

PG&E has restored power to 69% of its customers in Placer County. PG&E expects to restore power to 98% of the county by the end of Oct. 13. Restoration involves inspection and potential repair of all lines, which is very time-intensive.

Prepare your home or business. Make sure to unplug or turn off appliances, equipment and electronics to avoid damage caused by surges when power is restored. See more from PG&E here.

Do you have a septic system?

Residents using a septic tank effluent pumping system should know that alarms for their system may turn on when the power is restored. Know what to do if this happens. Call our Environmental Utilities at 530-886-4913 if your system sounds an alarm when power comes back on. Do not attempt to reset the alarm yourself.

Community Resource Center

PG&E has opened a customer resource center at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until power is turned back on. PG&E’s centers will offer charging ports for up to 100 people at a time, tables, chairs, air conditioning, restrooms and bottled water only.

Auburn Gold Country Fairgrounds
209 Fairgate Road
Auburn, CA 95603

While we expect the charging center to be the primary resource for those with powered medical devices, we’ll have staff present at the centers to identify and support any customers who have needs the centers aren’t able to accommodate. Our Public Health Office is proactively coordinating with our special-needs populations (like foster families, in-home supportive services clients) to identify needs and resources. We’ve reached out to the eight skilled nursing facilities that will be impacted by the shutoff to offer our assistance if they need to evacuate their patients to other facilities.

Traffic Safety

Remember, when traffic signals are flashing or not working, treat them as an all-way stop.

County Service and Operations

All Placer County offices, including museums and libraries, are open and operating at normal capacity. The only exception is the Gold Rush Museum in Auburn, which will be closed Oct. 11, but open this weekend.

County Public Information Line
